Five Tech Tips for
Road Warrior Productivity

If, like me, you are regularly on the road, the connectedness offered by today's wireless technology makes travel feasible because it keeps you in touch and in control of your business. Every road warrior has favorite tech tools, but I have found that these five make a difference both in both my effectiveness and efficiency when I travel.

  1. Motorola Razr. The mobile phone keeps any businessperson independent of his or her location. There are many brands and models available. Personally, I prefer the Razr, which keeps the phone function separate and apart from such other functions such as Internet capacity and personal contact lists, though it has the capacity to do more.

  3. Lenovo Laptop. I have long used the IBM (now Lenovo) ThinkPad. Recently, I bought a new one and this time was not persuaded away from my preference for a smaller unit. I love its small size, speed, and battery life better than any previous unit I've owned.

  5. Web sites, and These will help you stay connected with your "home" PC while traveling anywhere in the world. I use the former while the latter is a newer option that many prefer.

  7. Google alerts. These email alerts tell you when keywords that you specify, such as trade names, are mentioned by others on the Internet and come right to your laptop or PDA via WiFi.

  9. Garmen Nuvi. This is a portable GPS navigator, traveler's reference, and digital entertainment system all in one, and again, it is a new tool for me. Though I have some operational issues with the unit—sometimes, the directions take me on out-of-the-way circles, though I'm told that I'm not alone in this experience nor is this brand the only brand with such issues—however, the Garmen Nuvi helped me navigate "foreign" places such as New York City. As I get to learn how to navigate better with the Garmen, and as they improve their future units, I'm sure I will become even more dependent upon this tool.
